Mohd Usman Shaheed: From Oratory to Authorship — A Voice That Echoes, A Pen That Endures
For many years, people have listened to the speeches of Mohammad Usman Shaheed and enjoyed the rich flavor of his eloquent language. He boldly challenged those in power—senior officials, ruling groups, ministers, parliamentary candidates, and leaders of the opposition—representing the voice of Deccan with a refined and impactful oratory. He holds not only the status of a great public speaker and unmatched orator but has also left an indelible mark on the High Court of Hyderabad with his powerful arguments.
After receiving his education from an Urdu-medium school, he chose the legal profession and also displayed his leadership abilities by becoming a municipal councillor in Hyderabad. Owing to his natural gift for expression and communication, his oratory continued to overflow with pearls of wisdom. When he realized that the magic of oratory fades once the words are spoken, but the magic of writing carries the power not only to preserve language but also to speak with lasting impact—he concluded that the power of the written word surpasses that of the spoken word.
With this realization, he laid the foundation for not only social, political, economic, and communal writing but also for literary, academic, and thematic essays. His journalistic writings, published regularly in “The Siasat Daily”, were later compiled into a book, revealing their potential to inspire transformation and revolution.
